Las STAPs (proteínas adaptadoras de transducción de señales) son proteínas accesorias a las principales proteínas en una vía de transducción de señales. Estas proteínas adaptadoras contienen una variedad de módulos de unión que permiten la creación de complejos de señalización más grandes. Estas proteínas tienden a carecer de actividad enzimática intrínseca en sí mismas, y en cambio median interacciones proteína-proteína específicas que impulsan la formación de complejos proteicos.
Componentes de señalización
Básicamente, que la transducción de señales sea específica depende del reclutamiento de distintos componentes de señalización, como las proteínas quinasas y las GTPasas de proteína G, formando complejos activos de vida corta que responden a una señal de activación, como la unión de un factor de crecimiento a su receptor.
DOMINIOS
Estas proteínas adaptadoras generalmente contienen varios dominios dentro de su estructura que permiten interacciones específicas con varias otras proteínas. Por ejemplo, los dominios SH2 reconocen secuencias de aminoácidos específicas dentro de proteínas que contienen residuos de fosfotirosina y los dominios SH3 reconocen secuencias ricas en prolina. Hay muchos otros tipos de dominios dentro del adaptador y otras proteínas de señalización que permiten que se produzca una rica diversidad de interacciones proteína-proteína que son específicas y coordinadas y que ocurren en la célula durante la transducción de señales.
