Background:
PPARGC1A, also known as PGC-1α (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha), is a transcriptional coactivator that plays a central role in the regulation of cellular energy metabolism and mitochondrial biogenesis. PPARGC1A interacts with and coactivates various transcription factors, including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG) and nuclear respiratory factors (NRFs), to regulate the expression of genes involved in energy metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, and mitochondrial function. It promotes the transcription of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation, glucose metabolism, and thermogenesis, thereby enhancing cellular energy production and expenditure.
