Descripción
Insulin receptor substrate 3 (IRS3) is part of the IRS family of proteins that play a crucial role in the signaling pathways of insulin and insulin-like growth factors. Acting as a molecular scaffold, IRS3 binds to the activated insulin receptor, undergoing phosphorylation on specific tyrosine residues. This process enables the recruitment of downstream signaling molecules, such as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and Grb2, which are involved in metabolic regulation, cellular growth, and survival. IRS3 expression is primarily observed in adipose tissue and liver, suggesting its importance in glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism. Dysregulation of IRS3 activity has been implicated in conditions such as insulin resistance, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Research on IRS3 has highlighted its potential as a therapeutic target for enhancing insulin sensitivity in metabolic disorders.
