Descripción

PROKR1 is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by prokineticins, small peptide hormones involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis. PROKR1 couples to Gq and Gi/o proteins, activating phospholipase C (PLC) and modulating calcium signaling, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt pathways. PROKR1 is widely expressed in endothelial cells, immune cells, and various organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, and reproductive tissues. It plays a critical role in regulating vascular growth, smooth muscle contraction, and inflammatory responses. In reproduction, PROKR1 is essential for implantation, placental development, and uterine function. Dysregulation of PROKR1 signaling has been linked to infertility, inflammatory diseases, and ischemic conditions, where impaired angiogenesis and inflammation occur. PROKR1 is also implicated in cancer progression, promoting tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. Therapeutic targeting of PROKR1 offers potential in treating reproductive disorders, inflammatory diseases, and cancers involving aberrant vascularization and tissue remodeling.
