Background

ADGRA1, also known as GPR123, is a member of the adhesion G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by long extracellular domains facilitating cell-cell or cell-matrix interactions. This protein is highly expressed in the central nervous system and is implicated in neurodevelopmental processes, including axon guidance and synaptic formation. ADGRA1 contains a GPCR autoproteolysis-inducing (GAIN) domain, allowing for self-cleavage to regulate receptor activation.
