Descripción

AKAP2, also called AKAP-KL, is a dual-targeting scaffold protein that interacts with PKA, phospholipase C (PLC), and signaling proteins near cellular membranes. AKAP2 is highly expressed in endothelial cells, where it regulates cytoskeletal remodeling, cell adhesion, and vascular homeostasis. It organizes PKA signaling at the plasma membrane to control focal adhesion turnover and actin cytoskeleton dynamics, critical for endothelial barrier function and angiogenesis. AKAP2 interacts with membrane receptors and small GTPases, linking it to signaling pathways that regulate migration, adhesion, and proliferation in vascular tissues. Dysregulation of AKAP2 has been implicated in cardiovascular diseases, as loss of its function disrupts endothelial integrity and angiogenic signaling. Additionally, AKAP2 plays a role in neuronal development and synaptic plasticity, where its cytoskeletal organization supports neurite outgrowth and network formation.
