Background
Syndecan-2 (SDC2) is a transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan that is part of the syndecan family, which consists of four members (SDC1-SDC4). Syndecans are integral to cellular processes involved in adhesion, migration, and signal transduction. SDC2, specifically, plays a role in modulating cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, making it crucial for processes such as angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. This proteoglycan is abundantly expressed in tissues such as endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and some types of epithelial cells and neurons, especially during development.
