Prostate And Breast Cancer Overexpressed 1 (PBOV1), also known as UROC28, is a gene prominently overexpressed in prostate, breast, and bladder cancers, where it is thought to play a role in tumor progression and metastasis. While its precise molecular functions remain under investigation, PBOV1 is primarily associated with enhanced cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, contributing to the aggressive behavior of cancer cells. It is localized in the cytoplasm and has been suggested to interact with key signaling pathways involved in tumorigenesis, although its direct binding partners are not yet fully characterized. Its expression is regulated by epigenetic mechanisms, including promoter methylation, and high levels of PBOV1 have been correlated with poor clinical outcomes and shorter survival rates in cancer patients.
