Nucleoporin 205 (NUP205) is a key structural component of the nuclear pore complex, contributing to the formation of the nuclear pore's central channel NUP205 works with other nucleoporins to regulate the transport of large macromolecules, such as RNA and proteins, between the nucleus and the cytoplasm It plays an important role in maintaining the selectivity and efficiency of molecular exchange, essential for processes like gene expression, cell signaling, and cellular stress responses NUP205 is involved in regulating the movement of critical proteins, such as transcription factors and cell cycle regulators, that are essential for maintaining normal cellular function Dysregulation of NUP205 is linked to several diseases, including cancers, where impaired nucleocytoplasmic transport contributes to abnormal gene expression and tumor progression Additionally, NUP205’s function in maintaining the stability and structure of the nuclear pore is critical for nuclear envelope integrity during cell division
