Background

The Neuromedin B receptor (NMBR) is a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds to neuromedin B (NMB), a peptide belonging to the bombesin-like peptide family. NMBR is widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), the gastrointestinal tract, and the lungs. In the CNS, NMBR plays a role in thermoregulation, particularly in body temperature control, by modulating hypothalamic pathways. It is also implicated in feeding behavior and satiety regulation, as it interacts with neuroendocrine circuits that suppress appetite. Beyond the CNS, NMBR influences smooth muscle contraction in the gastrointestinal tract, supporting motility and digestion processes. Its expression in the lungs contributes to pulmonary regulation, including bronchial smooth muscle contraction.
