Descripción
Myomesin 1 (MYOM1) is a key structural protein located within the M-band of sarcomeres, the fundamental contractile units in muscle fibers. It serves as an essential linker between the thick myosin filaments, stabilizing the sarcomeric architecture during muscle contraction and relaxation cycles. MYOM1 plays a significant role in maintaining mechanical stability and transmitting forces generated within the sarcomere. Additionally, it interacts with other M-band proteins such as myosin-binding proteins and titin, facilitating the alignment and integrity of muscle filaments. Mutations or dysregulation in MYOM1 have been associated with muscle disorders, highlighting its critical role in both skeletal and cardiac muscle function.
