Melanin Concentrating Hormone Receptor 2 (MCHR2) Antibody

Background

MCHR2 is another G protein-coupled receptor for melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH), but unlike MCHR1, it is functionally expressed only in humans and other primates. MCHR2 primarily signals through Gq proteins, activating phospholipase C (PLC) and increasing intracellular calcium levels, which influences neuronal excitability and cellular responses. MCHR2 is expressed in the brain, particularly in regions regulating feeding, energy homeostasis, and mood, where it complements MCHR1’s actions. Activation of MCHR2 stimulates appetite and energy storage, linking it to obesity and metabolic dysregulation. Additionally, MCHR2 is implicated in emotional regulation, with potential roles in stress response and anxiety. Dysregulation of MCHR2 has been associated with overeating and weight gain, making it a target for anti-obesity therapies. Due to its restricted expression in humans and primates, MCHR2 represents a species-specific target with therapeutic potential in metabolic and mood disorders. The development of selective MCHR2 modulators could provide novel approaches to treating obesity and emotional dysregulation.
