VIPR2 is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), a neuropeptide that plays a central role in regulating smooth muscle relaxation, vasodilation, and neurotransmission. VIPR2 primarily couples to Gs proteins, activating adenylate cyclase, which increases intracellular cAMP levels and leads to the relaxation of smooth muscle cells and dilation of blood vessels. It is expressed in the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, heart, lungs, and brain. VIPR2 has significant roles in regulating gastrointestinal motility, vascular tone, and immune cell activity. Dysregulation of VIPR2 signaling is implicated in diseases such as asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory disorders. VIPR2 antagonists are being studied for their potential in treating these diseases, as they could help reduce excessive smooth muscle contraction and inflammation.

Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide Receptor 2 (VIPR2) Antibody
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP; MIM 192320) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP; MIM 102980) are homologous peptides that function as neurotransmitters and neuroendocrine hormones. While the receptors for VIP and PACAP share homology, they differ in their substrate specificities and expression patterns. See VIPR1 (MIM 192321) and ADCYAP1R1 (MIM 102981).
