Diphthamide biosynthesis 3 pseudogene 1 (DPH3P1) is categorized as a pseudogene, derived from the functional DPH3 gene involved in diphthamide biosynthesis, a unique post-translational modification of histidine residues in elongation factor 2 (EF2). While the parental DPH3 gene actively participates in the enzymatic pathway, the pseudogene DPH3P1 does not code for a functional protein, but its sequences might still have regulatory roles at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level.
