Background

AGR2 is a protein involved in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response and functions as a protein disulfide isomerase (PDI), facilitating the proper folding of secreted and membrane proteins. It is primarily expressed in secretory tissues such as the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and prostate, where it maintains ER homeostasis by catalyzing the formation of disulfide bonds in proteins. AGR2 also plays a role in cell adhesion and migration, partly through its interaction with mucins like MUC1 and MUC2.
