Descripción
ALPK2 is a member of the alpha-protein kinase family, a group of atypical serine/threonine kinases that phosphorylate substrates in regions of alpha-helical structures. ALPK2 is primarily expressed in epithelial tissues, where it is involved in processes such as cellular signaling, proliferation, and stress responses. Recent studies indicate that ALPK2 plays a significant role in inflammation and tumorigenesis. Its upregulation has been observed in colorectal and gastric cancers, suggesting a link between ALPK2 and cancer progression through its ability to activate pro-inflammatory pathways, such as NF-κB signaling. By promoting cytokine production and immune cell recruitment, ALPK2 may facilitate chronic inflammation, which contributes to tumor microenvironment remodeling. Additionally, ALPK2 is believed to influence epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a critical step in cancer metastasis. Dysregulation of ALPK2 may also impact cellular homeostasis, making it a potential biomarker for gastrointestinal cancers and inflammatory diseases.
