PTAFR - Platelet-activating factor receptor | Elisa - Clia - Antibody - Protein

Family main features

Background

The Platelet-Activating Factor Receptor (PTAFR) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) involved in mediating the effects of platelet-activating factor (PAF), a lipid mediator with diverse biological functions. PTAFR, also known as PAF receptor, is a GPCR that responds to platelet-activating factor (PAF), a potent lipid mediator involved in inflammation, immune responses, and cardiovascular regulation. PTAFR is expressed in various tissues and cell types, including platelets, leukocytes, endothelial cells, and immune cells, where it regulates cellular responses to PAF. PTAFR is activated by PAF, a phospholipid-derived mediator produced by various cell types in response to injury, infection, or inflammation. In summary, the Platelet-Activating Factor Receptor (PTAFR) is a GPCR involved in mediating the effects of platelet-activating factor (PAF) in inflammation, immune responses, and cardiovascular regulation. Dysregulation of PTAFR signaling is implicated in various pathological conditions, making PTAFR a potential therapeutic target for inflammatory disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders

Structural Features:

  • PTAFR is a typical GPCR with seven transmembrane domains, an extracellular N-terminus, and an intracellular C-terminus.
  • It undergoes conformational changes upon ligand binding, leading to activation of downstream signaling pathways.

Physiological Functions:

  • Inflammatory Responses: PTAFR activation mediates inflammatory responses, including leukocyte activation, chemotaxis, and release of inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and eicosanoids.
  • Immune Cell Activation: PTAFR regulates the function of immune cells, such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells, contributing to host defense and immune surveillance.
  • Vascular Effects: PTAFR activation influences vascular tone, endothelial cell function, and vascular permeability, contributing to cardiovascular regulation and endothelial dysfunction.

Clinical Implications:

  • Inflammatory Disorders: Dysregulation of PTAFR signaling is implicated in inflammatory disorders such as asthma, allergic reactions, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Cardiovascular Diseases: Altered PTAFR expression or function is associated with cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.
  • Neurological Disorders: PTAFR signaling may contribute to neurological disorders such as neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and ischemic stroke.

Therapeutic Potential:

  • Drug Development: PTAFR antagonists are being investigated as potential therapeutics for inflammatory disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders.
  • Precision Medicine: Targeting PTAFR signaling pathways may offer personalized treatment strategies for individuals with inflammatory conditions or cardiovascular risk factors.
