GRP119 - G-Protein Coupled Receptor 119 | Elisa - Clia - Antibody - Protein
Family main features
Background:
GPR119 is a G protein-coupled receptor belonging to the class A (rhodopsin-like) family of GPCRs. Was identified in the early 2000s through bioinformatics and molecular cloning techniques. GPR119 is predominantly expressed in the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and adipose tissue, with lower levels of expression in other tissues such as the brain. GPR119 has been implicated in mediating the effects of various endogenous and exogenous ligands, including lipids, fatty acids, and certain synthetic agonists. In summary, GPR119 is a G protein-coupled receptor with important roles in glucose homeostasis, incretin release, and potentially appetite regulation. Its activation may offer therapeutic benefits for conditions such as type 2 diabetes and obesity
Physiological Functions:
- Glucose Homeostasis: GPR119 activation in pancreatic β-cells promotes insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, contributing to the regulation of glucose homeostasis.
- Incretin Release: GPR119 activation in enteroendocrine cells stimulates the secretion of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which enhance insulin secretion and regulate blood glucose levels.
Appetite Regulation:
GPR119 activation in the hypothalamus may play a role in the regulation of appetite and food intake, although its exact functions in this regard are still under investigation.
Clinical Implications:
- Type 2 Diabetes: GPR119 agonists are being investigated as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, due to their ability to enhance insulin secretion and improve glucose tolerance.
- Obesity: GPR119 agonists may also have potential applications in the management of obesity and metabolic syndrome by promoting satiety, reducing food intake, and improving metabolic parameters.
Therapeutic Potential:
- Drug Development: GPR119 agonists are being developed as potential drug candidates for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Several synthetic agonists have been investigated in preclinical and clinical studies.
- Precision Medicine: Targeting GPR119 signaling pathways may offer personalized treatment strategies for individuals with metabolic disorders characterized by impaired glucose homeostasis or dysregulated appetite regulation.
