Background
AARSD1 (Alanyl-tRNA Synthetase Domain Containing 1) is a gene encoding a protein involved in the translation process of protein synthesis. This protein is characterized by the presence of an alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AlaRS) domain, which plays a crucial role in aminoacylation, the process of attaching an amino acid to its corresponding tRNA molecule. This process is fundamental for the accurate translation of the genetic code into functional proteins. Mistranslation happens when an amino acid is mistakenly attached to the wrong tRNA and ends up in the wrong place within a developing protein. To reduce the occurrence of serine being mistranslated as alanine, strong selective pressures have evolved to prevent such errors by incorporating a unique editing function within alanyl-tRNA synthetases (AlaRSs).
