Descripción
TAAR2 is another member of the trace amine-associated receptor family, closely related to TAAR1. It is activated by trace amines like phenylethylamine and other endogenous amines. TAAR2 is expressed in the brain, particularly in regions involved in olfaction, limbic functions, and mood regulation. Similar to TAAR1, TAAR2 couples to Gi proteins and modulates the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, influencing neuronal activity and emotional states. While its exact physiological role is not as well characterized as TAAR1, TAAR2 is believed to play a role in the modulation of mood and sensory processing. It is involved in regulating behaviors associated with anxiety, arousal, and stress responses. Dysregulation of TAAR2 signaling is thought to be involved in neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression, and it may contribute to the development of conditions like schizophrenia. Research into TAAR2 offers new potential avenues for the development of novel treatments for mood disorders and neuropsychiatric conditions.
