Background

Syndecan-1 (SDC1), a cell surface heparan sulfate proteoglycan, is encoded by the SDC1 gene and is part of the syndecan family, which includes four distinct proteoglycans (syndecans 1-4). These proteoglycans are integral to cell surface structure, functioning in cellular communication, adhesion, migration, and the regulation of growth factors.
