ACVR1B, also known as ALK4, is a type I receptor primarily activated by activins, inhibins, and Nodal ligands. This receptor phosphorylates SMAD2/3 to propagate downstream signaling, which regulates cellular processes such as differentiation, proliferation, and embryonic patterning. ACVR1B is expressed in many tissues, particularly during early development. Mutations in ACVR1B have been associated with tumorigenesis and reproductive disorders due to its role in cell cycle regulation and tissue homeostasis.
