Background
TAAR8A is a member of the TAAR family primarily expressed in olfactory sensory neurons. It plays a key role in detecting trace amines and other biogenic amines in environmental odors, particularly those linked to social communication or survival cues. TAAR8A is thought to bind specific volatile amines, contributing to the detection of chemical signals related to predator presence, decaying matter, or conspecific interactions. Its function may also extend to modulating the central nervous system via indirect effects on neurotransmitter pathways, linking it to potential roles in behavior and stress respons
