Background

Microfibril Associated Protein 5 (MFAP5), also known as MAGP-2, is another extracellular matrix protein associated with microfibrils. MFAP5 is involved in maintaining the structural integrity of elastic fibers and modulating cell-matrix interactions. It plays a significant role in angiogenesis, influencing endothelial cell adhesion, migration, and survival. MFAP5 has been linked to tumor progression and metastasis, particularly in ovarian and other cancers, where it contributes to a pro-tumorigenic microenvironment. Elevated levels of MFAP5 are associated with poor prognosis in cancer due to its role in promoting angiogenesis and remodeling of the extracellular matrix.
