ADP ribosylation factor guanine nucleotide exchange factor 1 (ARFGEF1) is a protein that regulates ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) proteins, which are involved in the regulation of vesicular trafficking, actin cytoskeleton dynamics, and cell signaling ARFGEF1 acts as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that activates ARF proteins by facilitating the exchange of GDP for GTP, a process crucial for ARF-mediated signaling In addition to regulating vesicle trafficking in cellular processes like endocytosis and exocytosis, ARFGEF1 influences the organization of the actin cytoskeleton, which is important for cellular motility, morphology, and division It is involved in processes such as receptor internalization, membrane trafficking, and the formation of specialized membrane domains Disruptions in ARFGEF1 can lead to defects in vesicular trafficking, cell adhesion, and immune responses, and it has been implicated in diseases such as cancer, where altered cell signaling and vesicle trafficking contribute to uncontrolled cell growth and metastasis ARFGEF1 also represents a potential therapeutic target for diseases related to cellular trafficking and actin dynamics, such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases
