Descripción

RAB40A, member RAS oncogene family (RAB40A) is a member of the RAB GTPase family and plays a significant role in regulating vesicular trafficking, particularly in the context of endosomal and lysosomal systems. It participates in sorting and trafficking vesicles from the Golgi complex to their appropriate destinations within the cell. RAB40A is also involved in the regulation of receptor trafficking and recycling, ensuring that cellular receptors are properly transported to and from the plasma membrane. This function is critical for maintaining receptor sensitivity, cellular signaling, and membrane homeostasis. In addition to its role in intracellular trafficking, RAB40A has been implicated in the regulation of autophagy, a cellular process that helps remove damaged proteins and organelles, promoting cell survival and homeostasis. Dysfunction of RAB40A can lead to disruptions in receptor recycling, which has been linked to various diseases, including cancers, where aberrant receptor signaling supports tumor growth. Additionally, its role in autophagy links RAB40A to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, where impaired protein clearance leads to cellular dysfunction and neuronal death.
