Descripción
PTGDR2, also known as DP2 or CRTH2 (chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells), is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). Unlike PTGDR, PTGDR2 couples to Gi proteins, inhibiting adenylate cyclase and promoting calcium mobilization, leading to chemotaxis, immune activation, and inflammation. PTGDR2 is highly expressed in Th2 cells, eosinophils, basophils, and innate lymphoid cells (ILC2), where it mediates allergic inflammation, cytokine release, and recruitment of immune cells to inflamed tissues. PTGDR2 is a key player in Th2-driven diseases, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dysregulation of PTGDR2 signaling contributes to chronic airway inflammation, tissue remodeling, and eosinophilic responses. PTGDR2 antagonists are being developed as novel therapies for allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis, and other Th2-mediated inflammatory conditions by inhibiting PGD2-dependent immune cell activation.
