Descripción

Nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 2 (NR1I2), also known as the pregnane X receptor (PXR), is a nuclear receptor that regulates the expression of genes involved in drug metabolism, xenobiotic detoxification, and the transport of various substances PXR is activated by a wide range of compounds, including steroids, bile acids, and pharmaceuticals, and it controls the transcription of genes involved in the metabolism and clearance of these substances It is primarily expressed in the liver, intestine, and kidneys, where it helps protect the body from harmful substances by promoting their elimination PXR also regulates the expression of genes involved in bile acid metabolism, lipid homeostasis, and steroid hormone synthesis Dysregulation of PXR has been associated with drug resistance, liver diseases, and conditions related to altered drug metabolism Its role in detoxification and drug metabolism makes PXR a key target in pharmacology, particularly in managing drug interactions and toxicity
