Background

NPY6R is a non-functional neuropeptide Y receptor in humans due to genetic inactivation; however, it remains functional in certain other species. In functional contexts, NPY6R binds neuropeptide Y (NPY) and peptide YY (PYY), acting as a regulator of energy homeostasis, feeding behavior, and metabolic responses. Its signaling is thought to couple to Gi/o proteins, inhibiting adenylate cyclase and reducing cAMP levels, similar to other NPY receptors.
