Background

Myosin light chain kinase 2 (MYLK2) is a muscle-specific isoform of myosin light chain kinase predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle tissue. MYLK2 plays a key role in regulating myosin activity during muscle contraction by phosphorylating the regulatory light chains of myosin II, a process critical for force generation and sarcomere function. The kinase activity of MYLK2 is tightly regulated by calcium-calmodulin signaling, ensuring precise control of contractile responses during dynamic skeletal muscle activities such as exercise and locomotion.
