Descripción
Myosin Binding Protein H (MYBPH) is a member of the myosin-binding protein family, which are crucial for regulating muscle contraction and sarcomere organization in striated muscles. MYBPH primarily interacts with thick filaments, specifically the myosin filaments, contributing to the stabilization and structural integrity of the sarcomere, the fundamental contractile unit of muscle fibers. Structurally, MYBPH contains immunoglobulin-like (Ig-like) domains, which facilitate its binding to myosin and other sarcomeric proteins. These domains allow MYBPH to regulate the alignment and interaction of thick filaments within the sarcomere. MYBPH is primarily expressed in striated muscles, particularly in cardiac and skeletal muscles, suggesting its role in maintaining the functional architecture of these tissues. Functionally, MYBPH plays a role in modulating muscle contraction and fine-tuning sarcomere mechanics. By interacting with myosin heavy chains, MYBPH can influence the efficiency and stability of actomyosin interactions during contraction. Mutations or alterations in MYBPH expression have been linked to certain muscle disorders, including cardiomyopathies and other skeletal muscle dysfunctions, where sarcomere disorganization occurs.
