Descripción
Myelin Associated Glycoprotein (MAG) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the nervous system. It is predominantly found in the myelin sheath, a protective covering that surrounds nerve fibers (axons) in both the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). MAG is essential for the maintenance of myelin integrity, axon-myelin interactions, and the regulation of axonal growth and regeneration. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, which is characterized by the presence of immunoglobulin-like domains. MAG's functions are vital for proper neuronal signaling and overall nervous system health.
