AHCTF1 (activator of Hsp90 ATPase chaperone activity 1) is a coactivator protein that regulates the chaperone function of Hsp90, a critical molecular chaperone involved in protein folding, stability, and activation AHCTF1 enhances the ATPase activity of Hsp90, facilitating the maturation and stability of client proteins, many of which are involved in cell cycle regulation, signal transduction, and stress responses AHCTF1 plays an important role in cellular processes such as DNA repair, apoptosis, and response to oxidative stress By modulating Hsp90 activity, AHCTF1 influences a variety of cellular pathways, including those involved in cancer progression, where Hsp90 client proteins are often involved in oncogenesis and drug resistance Dysregulation of AHCTF1 has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases and cancers, where its effects on Hsp90 activity can influence the stability of proteins involved in these conditions Additionally, AHCTF1’s role in the stress response suggests it could be a target for therapies aimed at modulating protein folding and cellular homeostasis
