Nucleoporin 214 (NUP214) is a critical component of the nuclear pore complex, contributing to the regulation of nucleocytoplasmic transport NUP214 is involved in the formation of the pore’s central channel, which facilitates the selective exchange of molecules, such as RNA, ribosomal subunits, and proteins, between the nucleus and the cytoplasm It plays a key role in the movement of various signaling proteins and RNA species that regulate cellular processes like gene expression, DNA repair, and cellular stress responses NUP214 also helps ensure the integrity of the nuclear envelope during cell division and is essential for maintaining nuclear function through proper nucleocytoplasmic exchange Dysregulation of NUP214 has been linked to various cancers, where altered nuclear transport contributes to tumorigenesis and metastasis Additionally, NUP214 is associated with certain viral infections, as it can impact the movement of viral components between the nucleus and cytoplasm, influencing the viral replication cycle
