Insulin receptor substrate 4 (IRS4) is another member of the IRS protein family, contributing to insulin and growth factor-mediated signal transduction. Unlike other IRS proteins, IRS4 displays a more tissue-specific expression pattern, being predominantly found in the brain, liver, and reproductive tissues. IRS4 is phosphorylated upon activation of insulin or insulin-like growth factor receptors, facilitating interactions with downstream signaling pathways, including PI3K and MAPK cascades. These pathways regulate diverse biological processes, such as energy metabolism, cell proliferation, and differentiation. IRS4 has garnered interest in the context of neurological development and metabolic regulation.
