Descripción
ISLR2, also known as LIG-1, is a transmembrane protein characterized by Ig-like domains and LRR regions that mediate cell adhesion and signal transduction. ISLR2 is predominantly expressed in the nervous system, particularly in developing neurons, where it regulates axon guidance, neuronal migration, and synaptic plasticity. Functionally, ISLR2 acts as a cell adhesion molecule (CAM) and participates in establishing proper neuronal connectivity by interacting with other CAMs and ECM proteins. It is essential for neurodevelopment, and its dysregulation has been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and schizophrenia. Recent research also suggests a role in tumorigenesis, particularly in regulating the invasive properties of cancer cells.
