Background

GABBR1 is a subunit of the metabotropic GABA-B receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor that mediates the inhibitory effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. GABBR1 forms an obligate heterodimer with GABBR2 to function effectively, and it couples to Gi/o proteins, inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity and reducing intracellular cAMP levels.
