Descripción

LRIT1 is a transmembrane protein that is part of the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) superfamily, characterized by its involvement in protein-protein interactions, particularly within neuronal and sensory systems. The structure of LRIT1 includes leucine-rich repeat regions and immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domains, which contribute to its roles in signal transduction and cellular adhesion. It is predominantly expressed in retinal photoreceptor cells and is crucial for synaptic organization and retinal signal processing. LRIT1 mutations have been linked to congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB), highlighting its importance in visual neurotransmission and synaptic connectivity. Its localization and function suggest that LRIT1 is a key component of the ribbon synapses in the retina, mediating interactions between photoreceptors and bipolar cells.
