Descripción

KHDRBS2, also called SLIM-1 (Sam68-like mammalian protein 1), is a KH-domain-containing RNA-binding protein that regulates RNA splicing, transport, and translation. It functions downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases and cytoplasmic signaling pathways, linking RNA metabolism to cell signaling. KHDRBS2 is expressed predominantly in differentiated tissues, including the brain, where it regulates alternative splicing and mRNA stability of genes involved in neuronal differentiation, synaptic function, and cellular adhesion. It interacts with SH2-containing signaling proteins and participates in regulating processes like cellular differentiation and tissue-specific gene expression. Dysregulation of KHDRBS2 contributes to neurological disorders and has been implicated in tumor suppression by modulating growth-related mRNAs. Knockout models suggest its role in neuronal development and maintaining cellular homeostasis through mRNA regulation.
