Descripción

KCTD16 is another member of the KCTD family that functions as an auxiliary subunit of GABA-B receptors, modulating their pharmacological and signaling properties. KCTD16 specifically regulates the kinetics of GABA-B receptor activation and desensitization, influencing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. It is widely expressed in brain regions associated with cognition, motor activity, and emotional regulation, playing a role in synaptic plasticity and neuronal excitability. KCTD16 interacts with GABA-B receptor subunits to enhance receptor sensitivity and prolong inhibitory signaling, which is critical for maintaining neural network stability.
