Description
IL31, which is made principally by activated Th2-type T cells, interacts with a heterodimeric receptor consisting of IL31RA (MIM 609510) and OSMR (MIM 601743) that is constitutively expressed on epithelial cells and keratinocytes. IL31 may be involved in the promotion of allergic skin disorders and in regulating other allergic diseases, such as asthma.

Descripción
Interleukin 31 (IL31) is a cytokine belonging to the IL-6 cytokine family that plays a central role in the regulation of immune responses and is heavily implicated in inflammatory processes, particularly in chronic pruritic (itching) skin disorders. IL-31 is primarily produced by activated T helper 2 (Th2) cells, a subset of T cells involved in allergic responses and the regulation of immune responses to extracellular pathogens. IL-31 was discovered as a cytokine that can link the immune system with the nervous system, particularly in the skin, where it triggers pruritus and inflammatory responses. The IL-31 receptor is widely expressed, being found on keratinocytes, fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and immune cells, which suggests its involvement in skin and tissue homeostasis
