Description

IL16 Antibody is a Rabbit Polyclonal antibody against IL16. The protein encoded by this gene is a pleiotropic cytokine that functions as a chemoattractant, a modulator of T cell activation, and an inhibitor of HIV replication. The signaling process of this cytokine is mediated by CD4. The product of this gene undergoes proteolytic processing, which is found to yield two functional proteins. The cytokine function is exclusively attributed to the secreted C-terminal peptide, while the N-terminal product may play a role in cell cycle control. Caspase 3 is reported to be involved in the proteolytic processing of this protein. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

Descripción

Interleukin 16 (IL16) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a critical role in immune system regulation, particularly in the recruitment and activation of immune cells such as CD4+ T cells, eosinophils, monocytes, and dendritic cells. It functions as a chemoattractant, orchestrating immune cell migration to sites of inflammation and infection, and thus facilitating the body's defense mechanisms. IL-16 is unique in that it acts primarily through its interaction with the CD4 receptor, which is widely expressed on various immune cells. It also modulates the activity of these cells, influencing both innate and adaptive immune responses. Originally identified for its ability to attract CD4+ T cells, IL-16 was subsequently found to have broader roles, including immune cell activation, modulation of cytokine production, and inhibition of viral replication. This has made IL-16 an important factor in various inflammatory conditions, such as asthma, allergic responses, and autoimmune diseases.
