Descripción
ABHD4 is a serine hydrolase involved in lipid metabolism, particularly in the synthesis and degradation of bioactive lipids such as N-acyl phosphatidylethanolamines (NAPEs). These lipids are precursors to endocannabinoids like anandamide, which regulate processes such as pain, mood, and appetite. ABHD4 is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, where it contributes to the regulation of endocannabinoid signaling and synaptic activity. It also plays a role in phospholipid remodeling, influencing membrane dynamics and lipid signaling pathways. Dysregulation of ABHD4 has been associated with altered lipid signaling and may contribute to neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic disorders. Its enzymatic activity and structural specificity highlight its importance in maintaining lipid homeostasis and signaling, making it a potential target for therapeutic intervention in conditions involving lipid dysregulation.
