Observed MW
Molecular Weight: Calculated MW: 13.8 kDa Observed MW (SDS-PAGE): 16 kDa Possible reasons why the actual band size differs from the predicted band size: 1. Splice variants. Alternative splicing may create different sized proteins from the same gene. 2. Relative charge. The composition of amino acids may affect the charge of the protein. 3. Post-translational modification. Phosphorylation, glycoslyation, methylation etc. may affect the band size. 4. Post-translational cleavage. Many proteins are synthesised as pro-proteins, and then cleaved to give the active form. 5. Polymerisation of the target protein. Dimerisation, multimerisation etc. will increase the band size observed.

Form
Lyophilized To keep the original salt concentration, we recommend reconstituting to the original concentration prior to lyophilization (see Concentration) in ddH2O. If a lower concentration is required, dilute in 10 mM PBS, pH 7.4. If a higher concentration is required, the product can be reconstituted directly in 10 mM PBS, pH 7.4, though please note that this will change the overall salt concentration. The stock concentration should be between 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex.

Descripción

GDF15, a stress-responsive cytokine, stands as a distinct member within the diverse TGF-β superfamily. Its expression is typically low in most tissues during normal physiological conditions. However, when cardiac myocytes face ischemia or heightened ventricular wall stress, GDF-15 expression intensifies significantly. This cytokine has emerged as a potent prognostic indicator in various diseases, including heart diseases and cancer. Interestingly, it appears to act protectively against cardiac injury, attributed to its antihypertrophic, antiapoptotic, and anti-inflammatory properties, although the specific receptor through which GDF-15 exerts its effects remains unidentified. Studies have revealed a positive correlation between elevated GDF-15 levels and factors such as LV mass, IL-6, and MMP-9 levels in patients with heart failure (HF)
