Descripción
ABCF1 is an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) protein that lacks transmembrane domains, distinguishing it from traditional ABC transporters involved in substrate transport. Instead, ABCF1 functions primarily in regulating translation initiation and immune responses. It facilitates the assembly of the translation machinery by interacting with ribosomal subunits, ensuring efficient protein synthesis. ABCF1 is ubiquitously expressed but is particularly abundant in immune cells, where it plays a role in regulating the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Its involvement in inflammatory signaling pathways has implicated it in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, where dysregulation of ABCF1 contributes to chronic inflammation. Additionally, ABCF1 is associated with cancer progression due to its role in sustaining protein homeostasis and immune signaling in the tumor microenvironment. Dysregulation of ABCF1 can disrupt translational control and immune balance, highlighting its significance in both cellular function and disease pathogenesis.
