Descripción
ABCB10, also known as mitochondrial ABC transporter-2, is primarily localized in the inner mitochondrial membrane and plays a critical role in mitochondrial function and heme biosynthesis. It is involved in transporting substrates required for heme production, a vital component of hemoglobin and cytochromes. ABCB10 works in coordination with other mitochondrial transporters, such as ABCB7, to ensure proper iron-sulfur cluster biogenesis and cellular redox balance. It is highly expressed in tissues with high metabolic and oxygen demands, such as the liver, heart, and erythroid cells.
