ANKRD13A is a member of the ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein family, which is characterized by its ankyrin repeats that mediate protein-protein interactions. ANKRD13A is involved in regulating protein trafficking and ubiquitination, particularly through interactions with proteins targeted for degradation or recycling. It localizes to the endosomal membrane, where it plays a role in controlling the fate of membrane proteins such as receptors and ion channels. ANKRD13A has been shown to interact with ubiquitin-binding domains, suggesting its participation in protein quality control and cellular homeostasis. Dysregulation of ANKRD13A may contribute to altered protein turnover, leading to diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, where disrupted trafficking and degradation pathways play critical roles. Its role in protein regulation highlights its importance in maintaining cellular function and integrity.
