Background

Alpha-Protein Kinase 1 (ALPK1) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the alpha-protein kinase family, characterized by its atypical catalytic domain structure. ALPK1 plays a role in various cellular processes, including protein trafficking, inflammation, and innate immune signaling. It is involved in the Golgi-to-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) transport pathway and has been implicated in the regulation of vesicle trafficking. ALPK1 is also recognized as a critical mediator of inflammatory responses, where it activates signaling pathways such as NF-kB and MAPK in response to pathogenic stimuli. Genetic mutations or dysregulation of ALPK1 have been associated with inflammatory diseases, including gouty arthritis and familial autoinflammatory conditions such as ALPK1-associated autoinflammatory syndrome. In addition, emerging evidence suggests that ALPK1 may contribute to tumorigenesis through its role in cellular signaling and inflammation.
