THIS PRODUCT IS FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY. NOT FOR USE IN DIAGNOSTIC OR THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES. Please note that our kits are optimised for detection of native samples, rather than recombinant proteins. We are unable to guarantee detection of recombinant proteins, as they may have different sequences or tertiary structures to the native protein.

Background

GABBR1 is a subunit of the metabotropic GABA-B receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor that mediates the inhibitory effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. GABBR1 forms an obligate heterodimer with GABBR2 to function effectively, and it couples to Gi/o proteins, inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity and reducing intracellular cAMP levels. This inhibition leads to decreased neurotransmitter release, regulation of synaptic transmission, and neuronal excitability. GABBR1 is widely expressed in the brain, particularly in regions involved in cognition, pain perception, and behavior. Dysregulation of GABBR1 is associated with neurological and psychiatric disorders, including epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and addiction. GABA-B receptors, including GABBR1, are targets for drugs like baclofen, which is used to treat spasticity and certain substance abuse disorders. Beyond the CNS, GABBR1 plays roles in insulin secretion and gastrointestinal motility. Its essential function in inhibitory neurotransmission makes GABBR1 a key target for therapeutic development in neurological and metabolic disorders.
