Descripción

GPR37, also known as the parkin receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed primarily in the brain, particularly in dopaminergic neurons. GPR37 plays an important role in regulating neuronal signaling, synaptic plasticity, and neuroinflammation. It is activated by its endogenous ligand, which remains largely unidentified, and couples to Gi proteins, leading to the inhibition of adenylate cyclase and modulation of other intracellular signaling pathways. GPR37 is involved in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease, as it is associated with the parkin gene, which is implicated in the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons. Mutations in the GPR37 gene have been linked to various neurodegenerative diseases, making this receptor an interesting target for therapeutic research. The receptor's potential as a modulator of neuroinflammation and neuronal survival is being explored for new treatments aimed at neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s.
